Rod lenses are highly polished cylinders made of optically transparent and homogeneous materials. Cut-rod cylindrical lenses are derivatives of the mother rod lens obtained by grinding off top and bottom of the rod. The length of rod and cut-rod lenses is diced to required length.

Glass - Optical material
D - Rod diameter (mm)
h1 - Rod height above optical axis (<=D/2) in mm
h2 - Rod height below optical axis (<=D/2) in mm
t - Rod thickness (<=D) in mm
L - Rod length (mm)
S1(λ12) - Coating code
S2(λ12) - Coating code


S1 and S2 are reserved for coating specification code for respective surfaces. The most common examples are provided in Preferred Coating Table. AR means Anti-reflective coating. Unless otherwise specified, R<0.5% across usable numerical aperture of the lens and within appropriate spectral range. For other coatings contact the Sales department.

The thickness of an hemispherical lens is D/2.

The thickness of an aplanatic lens is D(1+1/n)/2.

EFL = (n*D) / (4*(n-1))

WD = EFL - (D/2)
